Day 1

HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR - CU CHI TUNNEL

7:45 AM

In the morning, we depart from Ho Chi Minh city to Cu Chi Tunnels. Cu Chi is now considered a heroic district for its role in the anti – American war resistance during the Vietnam war. It is legendary for its over 220km underground tunnel system and is a popular tourist site for both Vietnamese and foreigners.

Along the way to Cu Chi from Ho Chi Minh city, we will pass by the scenic local countryside, where you might even spot ducks and buffalo cooling off in the river. You will find it hard to imagine the destruction and damage that once dominated the area, caused by bombing and mines when Cu Chi was “a free target zone.”

After the tunnels, we’ll stop for a lunch of local Vietnamese cuisine before heading back to Ho Chi Minh. Here, we’ll visit the Reunification Palace, which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the end of the war in April 1975, The Notre Dame cathedral, the General Post Office and the War Remnant Museum. The tour finishes at 17:00

Day 4

LONG TAN NUI DAT BATTLEFIELD

7:00 AM

Pick up at your hotel and depart for the trip. Stop off at Ba Ria to pick up your travel permit to the sites. Visit the site of the former Nui Dat Task Force Base. Little remains of this camp except for the columns of the main gate. The former runway is now a wide street in the local village and the old helipad is now a soccer field. A school established by the Australians is nearby.

Followed drive past the location of the Horseshoe (access not permitted these days due to mining activity) to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation. Visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a memorial raised by the Australians in August 1969 in memory of the great battle of Long Tan, before continuing on to the Long Phuoc Tunnels. Like other tunnels systems found in Vietnam, the Long Phuoc Tunnels included meeting areas, first aid stations, and fighting pits.

Back to Ho Chi Minh at around 5:00 PM

Farewell.

US Dollars are easily exchanged throughout Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, however other currencies such as Indian Rupee can generally be exchanged at airports provided notes are new and undamaged. We suggest for your convenience that you ensure your US Dollars are from the new series to avoid any difficulties exchanging money during your trip (should be from the new series from the year 2006 onwards). We suggest exchanging your money before traveling to remote areas and smaller towns, as exchange facilities can be limited.
